Adventures in Tanzania
Since July 2008, I've been volunteering in Hanga Abbey through the Benedictine Volunteer Corps. It's been an amazing experience so far, and I'll be posting some more about my travels soon. For now, you can see some pictures and a video at my facebook page. Also, my counterpart Ben has a blog you should check out.
I have been recording and editing an audio journal of some thoughts, sounds, and music I've experienced here in Tanzania. Part I is from my first week, when I was staying in the "metropolis" that is Dar Es Salaam.
Tanzania, Part I: Dar Es Salaam
Part II begins with my 14 hour, bumpy bus ride from Dar, and includes some of my first impressions of Hanga.
Tanzania, Part II: Hanga Or Bust
My third audio journal is a collage of music I recorded during Hanga's 50th jubilee celebration, including some great drumming and singing.
When I went to visit my friends Cara and Sara in the Imiliwaha convent, I helped Cara teach her class the song "Falling Slowly" from the movie "Once". The song's just a little on the sappy side, but it was really fun to sing. And the girls sound beautiful! Have a listen. (Unfortunately, the recording skips in a few places, but other than that it turned out pretty well)
