Armor: The Epic Ballad of a Knight

A simple guitar ballad transformed into an epic skit at SJU's Hodgepodge theater festival.

"Armor"
Lyrics and music by Charlie McCarron and Matt Schubbe

When I was young, I stumbled alone
As I trekked across fields that were tougher than stone
I was always maligned, and soiled to the bone
But I kept to myself what I could not condone

But at night I was not so adept
And I'd lie through my teeth as I shivered and slept
To make you aware of the claim that I'd staked
When my steed broke its leg it was more than I wanted to take
Had to put him down
And be on my way

As I walked on, the moon lost its glow
Strong winds forced me down to the valley below
The rain doused the hills, in a cave I did hide
But there was a man-eating dragon inside

I hollered and charged at the beast
It hollered back with its razor-sharp teeth
To make you aware of my bodily harm
Though my sword pierced its skull it had taken a bite of my arm
Had to chop it off
And be on my way

I became close to the end of my quest
I found the dark tower with the damsel distressed
And as I scaled the battlement wall
Her striking hair nearly caused me to fall

But her hair was in jut the wrong place
It had advanced over half of her face
And if the facial hair wasn't a sign
When the wind blew her skirt I found more than I wanted to find
Had to say goodbye
And be on my way
